Polar Bear Day
The club annually welcomes the new year with momentary insanity on January 1st. The sometimes frostbite defying heroics are a true testament to the human spirit. Chili with all the fixin's has become a mainstay of this event. The chefs are recognized by getting to wear a coveted chili pepper necklace. Recipes for chili and desserts have been requested and are published for those interested at the Recources drop-down menu. Polar Bear Day has grown to be a large family happening (if the weather isn't too bad).

The seven survivors of the first Polar Bear Day gathering back in 1999 are reverenced with great awe amongst other club members. The weather was unbelievable! When the first members arrived, the temperature was 21 degrees with a wind chill of 3 degrees. Engines (no electrics flown back then) were hard to start and vibrated badly, batteries lost power quickly, and fingers yelled injury to body tissue. The Fearless Seven (as they are known) encountered a closeness not experienced before at the field -- gathering around a powerful propane heater. This event is something survivors will always talk about.
